Deep Lander

The Deep Lander is a drop video camera system designed specifically for taking video footage of the seafloor in deep water environments. It has the following specifications:

  • can be deployed to depths of 600 m
  • records video to an onboard digital video recorder
  • has a single downward-looking camera operating a Sony 1/3'' super HAD color CCD with 480 lines horizontal resolution (768 x 494 pixels) and 0.003 lux low light performance
  • uses super-bright white LEDs for illumination

Shown in the image above are brittle stars and arrow worms as taken by the Deep Lander at approximately 200 m depth.
